They swayed to a slower beat
only they could hear
Even while the music played
and she shed a tear
Their children hid in the hallway
peeking every now and then
Not knowing if this meant
anything new for them
Later, much later she would tell them
what was happening here
But in this moment, they were ignorant
and could only sense a changed atmosphere
Wide-eyed and wondering why
and seeing only sepia-colored hope and chance
Perhaps she was back for good
for surely this was a certain kind of romance
They whispered carefully not daring to break
the spell that held them all in a trance,
But it was the last time they would ever see them
suspended in a dance
