if i am going to stay present
live right here in this moment
i would breathe in and say
this is perfect
i am not to think of the past
its words or actions i feared
i will not ponder of my future
taking me somewhere far from here
i am simply listening to the crickets
basking in the dusk of the evening
appreciating the love i saw and felt
in today’s eyes, in its words, and its hands
if i could but learn to see that each day
builds upon a new one in faith
i could hold on to a joyful hope
that can never be taken away
