junco

sweet little snowbird 

panda of the sparrow family 

with dark along her back, 

and a white round belly 

winter's winds

little one

you sit strong in wintertime

the winds blow

your feathers are ruffled

and still

there you are

full of life

and sweetness

you saw little of goodness

when you were chased

and then abandoned

your wings a little damaged

but look at you now!

healing

and observing

the sun through the clouds

even the breeze

feels like applause

and it is!

so, lift your head towards the sky

and when the time is right

lift your wings

and take flight!

those same strong winds

will only lift you high

and that, dear one

is right where you belong

April disappeared

as quick as a swallow's swoop

And curved to the left before I could

even catch my breath

January

January came

wrapped in snow

crunching, then still

and cold to the tip of my nose

Bundled in wool

puffs of foggy breath

deep sighs for the purity of the day

and a heart beating with depth

December

December came

quick and stealthily

with the crackling of pinecones

underneath my feet

the scent of Juniper

tangy and sweet

and the stillness

in the frigid air

quieting anxiety...

delight in the serenity."

I reach for me

into the depths

of where I first wailed

and clenched my fists

kicked my legs

and gulped the strangled air

to become

a fighter

but mostly a lover

Winter Walk

the fire within her 
burned intensely hot 
to alleviate her soul
she sought the winter chill;

she walked out 

into the cold frosty bite 

and the boiling emotion

rose and fell

she breathed in deeply 

trying to take in the freshness;

she sighed slowly 

trying to let go of her restlessness 

replace her hopelessness 

forget her helplessness

and amongst the firs 

and the evergreens 

spilled feverish tears 

wrapped in steam

the chill of the breeze

on the last warmth of summer

just enjoying the view
