Journaling has been known to be beneficial for our mental and emotional health. This is one way of processing. I choose to process through journaling in the form of poetry.
You could try:
- Writing a subject/circumstance in the perspective of the other person. (Whoever that other person may be. Perhaps not the first person you thought of.)
- Look for writing prompts to get you going. (The internet, Pinterest, and Instagram have tons of ideas. Search "Writing Prompts")
- Write absentmindedly for a set amount of time. Use a timer. You might be surprised what comes up. When you are done, highlight what you find interesting. You might rearrange it so that it feels like a poem to you or keep it just as it is.
- Respond to one of mine in the form of a poem. (I would personally love this, and it's a favorite thing to do with a friend. If you do this, send it my way in the comments. It would make my day.)
- Remember! Poetry does not have to rhyme. Let it flow the way it feels good to you.
If you only love to read shared poetry, then have at it, please! Enjoy! May the dark pages fill you with validation, the thoughtful ones with clarity, and the inspirational ones with light.
