she held on to Bearbear
yes it’s time to move
adjusted her cap
righted her mustache, and thought,
“I’ll need more tape soon.”
but for now
the adventure stretched before them
and dear Bearbear had napped until noon
she climbed upwards towards his neck to whisper,
“Dear boy. I think it’s time we go.
Don’t you?”
and that’s how they left
by the growing light of the moon.
they found a place to rest
deep in a cave on the mountainside
his fur keeping them both warm
and her stories to make them laugh
they cared not about the hour
delighted in the full moon that night
they danced by the light of a fire
and not once did she want to cry
she forgot the hat atop her head
her mustache and her tie
she leaned into Bearbear and whispered,
“With you I need no disguise.”
for he was her best friend.
that was the simple reason why.
and if you have ever had a best friend,
you know sometimes they are not so simple to find.
they found a nice little creek to cross
where the water twisted and turned
Bearbear saw some fish in this creek
and their bellies grumbled and churned
so she watched nearby on a rock
where she cheered him on
he caught one little fish in his mouth
and then he overturned
SPLASH! went the water
and soaked the girl’s hat through
she lifted it up to peer under and giggle “Do that again, please do!”
Oh she enjoyed every second
Even all the work, too;
Because nobody else made taking care of her seem
like such an easy thing to do!
they'd traveled far and wide
adventures were many now
they stopped at times
when they were having so much fun
that they cared not that the time past or how
some places were funny
and people wore silly clothes
and other places had the most fascinating creatures
that they had ever known
and still others made such delicious food
and they just had to follow their nose!
she learned so many new jokes
and how to laugh heartedly again
she wondered at the spectacular animals
they felt a lot like friends
and she and bearbear cooked and baked
because of savoring flavors there was no end
every moment became a gift
and make no mistake
it was a time for living
simply for living's sake!
