when they made me feel like I belonged
I knew one day they'd take it back
and act as if they never once loved me at all
It's the cycle I know well
as if it is my middle name
and yet I am always hoping for better
and believing in more all the same
Thank God there is someone
so dependable and true
that I have learned to rely on;
He has the power to put his name to a promise
and it makes it even more secure
He is consistent and loyal and strong
With a father this good
How do you trust anyone else
to imitate his loving ways?
You learn to care with mercy
You learn you need it, as well
You, too, have hurt with the things you do and say
No one is immune
to a stumble every now and then
but that is why it's so important
to know how to be a good friend
full of understanding, and who
can show free forgiveness
for the times I approach needing it myself
I can rely on the same kindness
Soon we will care most easily
And the pain will subside
for all that will exist
is only the good for all time
and we will learn what love actually is
in all it's intricate beauty in a perfect life
