I know what only
a big sister could
that you cry when you are hurt
but you act like you never would
those times we played
in the backyard
you cared if I picked you
and played fair from the start
you learned you had
to be tougher than me
even when you were younger
and just a baby
life was unfair
just because you were a boy
no one talks about
when that started and at what point
I just knew that soon
I could no longer pin you down
your grew taller and stronger
and that made you rather proud
because at least you could match
what everyone expects of men
to be tough, keep your head up
and don’t let anyone know they win
but you would let me win
and I knew
I had a kind brother then
(even if you will still say
that you never did. 😝)
