she chased the light
and chased the light
and chased the light
it lead her to the dead end
of a narrow street
covered by oak trees
there she found a field
of wild flowers opening up
to a meadow, lush and green
she found a soft spot
amongst the warm grass
with the sounds of nature in her ear
she laid upon the ground
and closed her eyes
and mumbled a pleading prayer
the tears gathered at the corners
and then fell in streams to the earth
emptying the sadness flowing in her
later, much later
she knew she might feel light again
but she must first rid herself of the ache
the pain heavy within her body
dragging her to many places
and now she will leave it behind
the joy within her prevails
she feels it at the edges
and waits for its return
one day she will feel it radiant
and full, complete, and new
welcoming her like a calm river stream
for now she hugs the earth
this will be her home
she will find rest and calm below and within
when darkness came
as it often does,
she chased the light
