I cannot abandon
that young boy anymore
I pushed him aside
just to make sure
everyone else was alright
and to be honest
I am not sure I have not just
continued to do that
the rest of my life
"As long as they are happy,
I will sit in this corner quiet."
But that was not my role.
Just to be sacrificed and compliant.
Someone already paid that
high price that proved
I should be dignified,
cared for, and valued.
I may not be ready
to prove to him I'm steady,
