she watched him fill his life
with the details of her
until she decorated his world
like she was his security
then saw him pluck it all out
one by one she was disappearing
until all the little pieces
and traces of her were gone,
just as easily
i watched her scramble to find them
and cradle them like precious rubies
place them in her pockets to treasure
and vow to lend parts of herself
to no one again so gullibly
