in the same explorative way
the patiently slow digging together
for treasures that lie within the clay
that's what I'm chasing
that's where I go
and when someone asks
in the interest of learning you
you'll understand what they meant
when your friends said "you are worth it, too"
it's the meeting in the same headspace
in the trenches of the story
the day has gone, the sun has set
but the words came fast and time just passed
thrilling and yet calming
it is regular life with a touch of the ethereal
and at the heart of the matter
you continue to discover
that in this line of fieldwork
you get to do a job you love
you pick up that trusty trowel
and stick it right back into the dirt
you pour a bit into the seive
and sift to see what you can unearth
because it's an excavation project
and you are the PI
and when you meet someone who gets that
you think "well, it's about time."
