and a section of grass and trees
counting my steps with my headphones in
there is no one to greet
hundreds of faces pass me by
and my world is still my own
a strange way, a strange day
and nothing I've ever known
the winters are worse
blistery and frigid
but you make it work
the trains rumble beneath you
and now i know how Marilyn’s white dress
could get away from her
noises are mixed
children laugh
and dog parks are here, too
people smile
they live here on purpose
i remind myself: "currently, so do you."
this country girl is far from home
but she's excited for new experiences
even if there are no cows here
or acres of land
but the music and the talent
and the sidewalk shows
are something else!
you have to see it to understand
i live in a building
floors high
with a view of a Brooklyn sky
and there's nothing quite like
the city lights
twinkling at night
