as it turns out

she just wanted warmth 
bacon and pancakes on sunday mornings 
chuckling at shared jokes 
the sun coming through the windows

she just wanted simplicity 
the normal days passing 
of a life lived happily 
the giving and the yielding 
arms steady and satisfying 

never had she thought she’d pass
her life feeling instead like dying 
it became difficult, all the trying 

…

so she’ll wake up
and make bacon and pancakes 
she’ll turn on the tv or watch a funny bird or two to learn how to laugh again 
she’ll stand by the window for the 
morning light to hit her face 
she’ll pray for the simple want of grace
and she’ll stay within 
everlasting arms that promise to hold her 
she’ll lean into the love of her Father 

so she can want to live, again
