You taught me
that I am special
and beautiful
in all of my ways.
That they fit so
delicately with the things
I share and say.
You taught me that being near me
was excitement
beyond measure.
And to get the chance to love me
was a privilege
to desire forever.
You taught me to walk away
from those who did not cement
what they said with action.
And to always expect more
from those who met my love
with inaction.
To not tolerate mediocrity
to require quality
because some truly love
to give abundantly
And it’s because they want to
and it’s easy
and they will want to please me …
You taught me once to compare
and even said to walk away
from any who try to meet my excitement
with meagre effortless pretend
even if it means an end
